3D Character Bear Design

3D Textile Design

Teddy bears are referred to as a three dimensional design because they aren't flat like a quilt or artwork would be.

Making these bears is just a hobby.  Tons of fun, but just a hobby.  It took me a while (and a few misshapen bears) to get the pattern just right, but I am finally pleased with the proportions of the bear pattern I designed.

I used a sewing software program to design the pieces of my bears and their costumes, often nudging fixed points pixel by pixel until I get the shape just right.

I used the Microsoft Publisher feature of Microsoft Office to resize my bears and costumes as their 'lasso, lock and resize' function saves a lot of time.

I also use it to design my complicated quilt patterns.  The easy resize of combined shapes makes is even more useful in designing quilt blocks.

This is probably not what the writers and publishers of the software had in mind, but I think it's a good advertising point to say that my softly filled teddy bears were created with their computer software, lol

LITTLE NECKERCHIEF BEAR

Little brother to Gardening Bear, Little Neckercheif Bear stands only 9" tall. He was created on April 26th, 2013.

LITTLE GREY BEAR

Made from lambswool-like synthetic fleece, he's very curly-whurly. Here I've marked out the body parts on the wrong side of the fur fabric.

The eyes and nose make this little bear look like 'borg bear' from the inside, lol

Once turned right side out, he looks much more like a bear.

Now, I just need to make his costume. Standing 9" tall, he was created on April 26th, 2013.

LITTLE BLUE-EYED WHITE BEAR

This 9" bear (shown with two 9" bears) has blue eyes, black noses, pink ears and feet.  They were created on April 29th, 2013.

LITTLE GARDENING BEAR

Standing 11" tall in her pansy-print lace-trimmed dress with ribbon sash, she's all set to water her daisies with her own watering can

Like all my bears, she has a button belly button.  She was created on April 24th, 2013.

SLINGSHOT BEAR
Standing 11.5" tall, he's only slightly taller than his girlfrend bear. In his pocketed denim overalls, he's got a flower to give his girlfriend, Gardening Bear.

He's also got a slingshot to ward off those nasty bees that might sting her in her own garden.  He was created on April 25th, 2013.

RUSTY BEAR

Made of rust coloured fur with a cream tummy, he has golden eyes and a button belly button.

Shown with Little Grey Bear (not inc) he stands 11" tall.  He was created on April 27th, 2013.

BLUE-EYED WHITE BEARS

These two 11" bears (shown with 9" bear) have blue eyes, black noses, pink ears and feet.

Here they are in the 'parts department' waiting to be assembled.  They were created on April 29th, 2013.

SOFT-EYED BEAR

This adorable little soft-furred bear stand 12" tall and has huge gentle brown eyes.

He's oh-so huggable, though he does not have his costume yet.

He also has the cutest black button nose.  He was created on April 29th, 2013.

PAPPA BEAR
Papa has a contrasting cream-coloured muzzle. The first bear like this that I've made.

He was created on June 4th, 2013 and stands 12 1/2" tall.

FOUR-OF-A-KIND BEARS

These four adorable brown-eyed bears are all from my 13" tall bear pattern, but they all have slightly different features.  Their fur is super soft. They still need to be costumed.  They were created over May 1st and May 2nd.

CHOCOLATE GLISTEN BEAR

With his glistening chocolate-coloured fur, this brown-eyed bear stands 13" tall. He was created on May 5, 2013.
LITTLE UMBER BEAR

Little Umber Bear stands 13" tall and gets his name from his pumpkin-coloured ears.  He has clear eyes and was created on May 9th, 2013.

TAN TAN BEAR

Tan Tan stands 13" tall and was created on April 20th, 2013.

THE TWO BLUSHING BEAVERS

Named for their blush-coloured real sheared beaver fur and stand 13" tall. They were finished on May 28th, 2013.

FUZZ EARS BEAR

Fuzz Ears has, unlike most of my bears, fuzzy inner ears and feet.  He stands 14" tall and was created on May 13th, 2013.

LAMBSWOOL BEAR

This tall teddy bear is make of real lambswool and is completely hand-stitched. He stands 15" tall and was created on May 3, 2013.

PEPPER BEAR

This is the first lidded bear I've made. I am so pleased with how her eyes turned out, I might make all my bears this way from now on.

 She's very tall, standing 16"

She's called Pepper because her fur is sprinkled with black hairs.

Here she is wearing her frilly little party dress with lace and daisy trim and a rose in her hair.  She was created on May 20th, 2013.

THE PLATINUM TWINS

With beautiful platinum tinged fur and huge expressive eyes, these twin bears stand 16" tall.

They have black soles and inner ears to match their long black eyelashes.

They were created on May 20th, 2013.

APRIL BEAR

She's the first long-haired bear that I've made. I can't work with real mohair because I'm asthmatic so she's made of its synthetic equivalent.

She is machine stitched.

She's a whopping 18" tall.

She had beautifully expressive sad eyes and real eyelashes, not fake ones.  She was created over May 20th and 21st, 2013.

MO BEAR

This large bear is made from natural lambs wool. He's very soft and gentle-eyed and stands a whopping 20" tall.

I called him Mo because of his curly fur.  Well, the name Curly was too obvious and I certainly didn't want to call him Larry.  He was created on June 3rd, 2013.

KRAZY HAIR BEAR
This is my favourite bear that I've made to date. He's made of real raccoon, has huge expressive brown eyes and his name comes from the naturally erratic pile of the raccoon fur.

I love the two-tone colouring of his long-hair pelt and his cute broad nose. The dark brown leather of the soles of his feet match the interior of his cute ears.
Here the pieces did not so much look like a bear yet.  Krazy Hair is completely stitched by hand and stand 21" tall. He was created on July 7th, 2013.

Standing Lady Bears

This is the first Lady Bear with a doll-like body that I've made, a project that I've wanted to begin for many years.

She is a prototype, so she still isn't quite right.  She needs a few adjustments and she still needs her costume.

Her fur is ivory and whisper soft, her body is made from muslin and her brown lidded eyes still need lashes added.  She stands 19" tall.  Next, I start on a costume for her. (And straighten her nose a bit, lol)

BLUE-EYED PANDA BEAR

This panda bear is made from real rabbit fur.
Here I'm stitching the panda bear eye patches from black rabbit pelt. He's an on-going project.
